Pontius Pilate was an unbeliever, yet he realized that Jesus was a righteous man, one whom the chief priests and elders delivered to him for crucifixion because of envy (Matthew 27:17-18). People who claimed they were serving God wanted to kill the Son of God because of their jealousy. Plus, they were bitter because He exposed their true colors that despite their righteous appearance, they were hypocrites, children of the devil (Matthew 23).
Unfortunately, sometimes unbelievers are more skilled at spotting hypocritical Christians, especially religious leaders. This is in part because the do not fall for things such as a person’s title, and they are not intimidated by threats, such as do not touch the Lord’s anointed. Another reason why they are not deceived is that a sinner can recognize another sinner, to include one hiding behind religion. Isn’t it ironic that when an errant minister is brought down that it usually happens because of a nonbeliever? Many Christians are such cowards that they even let ministers get away with criminal conduct, until law enforcement officials step in. Christians hide the pastor’s sins (to include criminal conduct) by remaining silent and even trying to silence those with the courage to speak out. By the way, do you know you have the authority to fire your pastor? One of the easiest ways is to renounce that individual’s authority over you and to walk away from his ministry. Whenever you leave a ministry, especially if you had to escape from rottenness, please ensure that you renounce that individual’s authority over you. If you don’t know the reasons, feel free to comment and ask why?
It is better to walk away, sever the connection from a minister and/or ministry, be uncovered (as they like to say) than to have a rotten covering, which is no covering at all. By the way, the devil is referred to as ‘…the anointed cherub that covereth…’ ~ Ezekiel 28:14 (KJV) Closely examine who is actually “covering” you and make the determination if you need to fire your pastor. Do not follow and serve anyone who is not following and serving Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 11:1). The name of the Lord is on many ministers lips even though their heart is far from Him. Whichever god a minister is serving is the god that you subjected yourself to…
I never expected this exhortation to go in this direction, or for it to be this long, but I am inspired to remind you to “…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” ~ Philippians 2:12 (KJV) Sometimes that means recognizing when other professing Christians, to include ministers, are working their way to hell and separating yourself from them is best for your salvation. Scripture tells us to “…have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the Light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is Light.” ~ Ephesians 5:11-13 (KJV) Some ministers are doing some evil things, as if God is blind. There is more to those dreams that some people are having about ministers and/or other professing Christians…
Ensure you do not share in anyone’s judgment, as is prescribed in the following:
“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, ‘Come out of her, My people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double. How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, ‘I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.’ Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning…’” ~ Revelation 18:4-9 (KJV)
No one is worth going to hell with or for. Some of what I have been inspired to convey may sound like rebellion to authority, and it is, but only to ungodly authority. There is also a separate case against authority figures whose period of authority over you has expired…
Your relationship with the Lord will put you at enmity with others, to include those who once called and even treated you as a friend. The Lord gave us the following warning. ‘…For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.’~ Luke 12:52-53 (KJV)
The same Lord who told us to honor our mother and father (Matthew 19:19) also told us, that in some cases, our relationship with Him will cause a rift in those and even other relationships. Which begs the question, “Who are you putting above the Lord in your life?” I submit that in some cases, that exalted one is a so-called spiritual parent, for which people disobey God to give him/her/them honor. Many people quote Malachi to induce fear to cause people to pay tithes and offerings, even though the Lord used the prophet to primarily rebuke the clergy at time. And yes, the Lord still uses prophets to rebuke the clergy, even though many prophets have become Jezebel’s eunuchs, or at least like them. One of the other things the Lord used the prophet to convey was, ‘A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a Father, where is Mine honour? And if I be a Master, where is My fear?’ saith the Lord of hosts unto you, ‘O priests, that despise My name. And ye say, ‘Wherein have we despised Thy name?’~ Malachi 1:6 (KJV) Have you been giving anyone more honor than God? If you say the Holy Spirit is your Comforter, why is He covering you, like a comforter? Are you trusting a person to do something that only the Lord can do?
For those who think the members of the clergy are untouchable, never forget the following, especially for wayward ministers:
o Jesus said, ‘Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.’ ~ Matthew 18:15-17 (KJV)
o “Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.” ~ 1 Timothy 5:19-20 (KJV)
When you are doing the work of the Lord, you will experience persecution, to include from within by those who are seemingly your brothers and sisters in Christ, and worst of all, from the shepherds who should know and do better. When you serve Christ you can also expect to suffer like Him. Sometimes the persecution is worse from professing believers in Christ than from nonbelievers, as was the case with David. David found more peace living with the Philistines for 16 months than he did in Israel while king Saul spent years trying to kill him (1 Samuel 27). Some people are in Godly positions but they are of greater service the devil. But like Jesus said, ‘These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. They shall put you out of the synagogues [churches/ministries]: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor Me.’~ John 16:1-3 (KJV)
Watch out for the ‘leaven of the Pharisees’(hypocrisy) among professing Christians. They will try to crucify you in one way or another because of your relationship with and service to Christ Jesus. I close with the following Words from the Lord:
‘Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. And I say unto you My friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear Him, which after He hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear Him.’ ~ Luke 12:1-5 (KJV)
